Less Noise, More Gratitude

By Scott McCord, AAMS®, BFA™

There has been plenty competing for our attention in 2026, including debates about artificial intelligence, concerns about the cost of living, conflicting headlines, and a recent election with divided opinions. There always seems to be something demanding a reaction.

Thanksgiving offers an opportunity to pause, look beyond the noise, and give more attention to what brings contentment, strengthens relationships, and makes our lives meaningful.

Appreciating What Is Already Here

We often let our mood and contentment be shaped by our circumstances. Yet many circumstances are beyond our control. Focusing too much on them can distract us from noticing the good around us and the kindness others have shown us, even amid ongoing concerns.

Even when one concern is resolved, another can take its place. If we wait for everything to go our way, we may overlook much of what makes life good now.

Being grateful doesn’t require us to dismiss our concerns. We can want things to improve while appreciating a friend’s support, a family tradition, or time spent with someone we love.

This Thanksgiving, ask yourself: What contributed to my happiness this year? What ordinary part of my life would I miss if it were gone? Who helped make my life a little better this year?

Express Your Gratitude

When someone comes to mind, tell them what you appreciate.

Be specific. Instead of simply saying, “Thank you for everything,” mention what they did and why it mattered. A funny thing happens when we express gratitude this way: the other person feels good, we feel good, and the relationship can grow stronger. It is a win-win-win.

The noise will continue. This Thanksgiving, make some room for the people and experiences you are grateful for.

Thank You

I am grateful to you. Thank you for your trust and confidence, for our conversations, and for the privilege of knowing and working with you. Thank you for choosing me as your partner on this journey.

With Gratitude,

Scott
